Travelling in different places

Travelling With A Mission … “ A Trek to Remember “ – 1

There are the chapters in this story.  It is a story of going places and taking travel to different paradigm where destinations transcend mere beauty and actually transform a part of you.  Usually, travelling is for explorers who wish to conquer a certain location, to gin proof of their arrival at the place.  But sometimes, the proof becomes a change in perspective.

This is what happened when my niece joined “A Trek to Remember.” Organized by the K.I.D.S. (Kabataang Inyong Dapat Suportahan) foundation.  The title was very apt for it left fond memories and drove its participants to do more.  With the mission to reach out and help the students of Cambulo Elementary School in Cambulo, Banaue, Ifugao, a team of 37 neophyte and experienced climbers battled the dangerous trails of Mt. Amuyao.  When having school supplies for most of them simply means buying it from a bookstore, this trek changed the definition to walking 12 kilometers and giving the items personally to the excited children.

According to the head of the K.I.D.S foundation, they chose to give out school supplies to the students of Cambulo Elementary School in order to encourage them to come to school and study harder.  Doing something for children gives a glimmer of hope that these youngsters might actually be some of the future leaders of our country.

Truly, joining in the advocacy was heartwarming.  As my niece told that the smile on the faces of both young and old members of the town were enough to take away the pain of very tired feet and the anxiety of dying on the trail.  Getting there was anything but easy.
